With a new school year starting soon, thousands of teachers across the country are working to prepare their classrooms for the 2022-2023 school year. This typically means stocking up on school supplies, and in struggling school districts, teachers end up footing the bill and paying for these out of their own pockets. But this year, country superstar Cody Johnson and his COJO Nation are here to help.
Johnson’s current single, “Human,” serves to remind us of the common thread binding every person on this planet: our collective journey of learning what it means to be human. We’re all in this together and now more than ever, it’s crucial that we prioritize supporting one another and lifting each other up. That’s why the COJO Music/Warner Music Nashville recording artist is partnering with Get Your Teach On for the Clear the List campaign – a nationwide grassroots movement organized on social media to support teachers by purchasing items for their school supply lists. #CoJoClearTheList Invites everyone to support our teachers across the country and help them get all the supplies they need. CLICK HERE for more details.
“I am thrilled to share that we are partnering with Get Your Teach On to Clear the List as we approach a new school year,” Johnson shared. “My wife, Brandi, and I have personally encountered the profound impact that a school teacher has on the future of a child’s life. Please consider joining us in supporting these wonderful humans that give so much of their time, effort, and energy to the future by inspiring the children of the present. Our hope is to make preparation exciting for both teachers and students! And what is more encouraging than having community support, as well as the necessary tools and classroom supplies to kick off a new school year?! We’re giving back in honor of the educators that, quite literally, changed our lives.”
Johnson is also set to make two appearances on TODAY in the coming weeks, first performing “Human” for television viewers on August 17. On Labor Day, September 5, fans will also have a chance to tune in for a performance of his platinum selling, multi-week #1 song “’Til You Can’t.” Both songs are on Johnson’s sophomore major-label release, Human The Double Album, which debuted as a top country album the week of its release last fall.
Johnson is set to join Zac Brown Band on August 18 at Citi Field in New York while his own headline tour continues through December. His calendar year now includes 34 sold-out concerts and among them, his sold-out concert at FirstBank Amphitheater in Nashville.

Pillbox Patti is “breaking genre barriers” – Forbes
Earlier this summer Pillbox Patti introduced herself to the world with the release of “Good People” and “Young and Stupid.” On the heels of those tracks comes “Suwannee,” a country song that offers Pillbox Patti’s (Nicolette Hayford) unique perspective, and tell it like it is – the good, the bad, and the ugly – attitude. It’s a style Forbes called “hypnotic” and “poignant” while stating “It’s…honesty and authenticity that Hayford wants to share with listeners on her debut project.” Listen to “Suwannee” HERE.
Written by Hayford with Aaron Raitiere, Ashley McBryde, Park Chisolm, Benjy Davis, Connie Harrington and Joe Clemmons, and produced by Park Chisolm, “Suwannee” is an autobiographical song about Nicolette’s youth, growing up in Florida. She didn’t have a lot, but the hard times and spirit the of the state shaped her into who she is today. On “Suwannee” Pillbox Patti sings:
WAY DOWN UPON THE SUWANNEE RIVER
THAT’S WHERE I COME FROM
THAT’S WHERE I COME FROM
WHERE THE SUN SHINES FOREVER
IT’S DEEP IN MY BLOOD
YOU KNOW I GREW UP
BAREFOOT DRIVIN’ WITH SOME BUGS ON THE BUMPER
FREEBIRD FREE IN AN ENDLESS SUMMER
DOWN UPON THE SUWANNEE RIVER
THAT’S WHERE I COME FROM
Pillbox Patti is the evolution of celebrated Nashville songwriter Nicolette Hayford. She has penned hits like “One Night Standards” and “Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” for Ashely McBryde as well as songs for Lainey Wilson, William Michael Morgan and Chrissy Metz. In 2021 she was named MusicRow’s Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year and nominated for ACM and CMA Song Of The Year Awards.
After years of writing for other artists, Hayford is finally stepping into the spotlight as an artist. The ten-year town put her into a box, so she ventured off with her tribe of writers and what has emerged is Pillbox Patti, allowing Hayford to say anything and everything she wants. The fresh, authentic take on growing up in her Country is crystallized through the lens of a Florida native delivering her youth and adulthood in an honest, spirited, not always pretty, package.
These three songs offer a first taste of music from her upcoming project. More music from Pillbox Patti will be released later this year.

“Damn Strait” Tops Billboard’s Country Chart for Third Straight Week
Triple Tigers recording artist Scotty McCreery, who is currently at No.1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for the third consecutive week with his hit song “Damn Strait,” has partnered with Dr Pepper to give fans the chance to win “The Flyaway Experience You Deserve.” The grand prize includes travel, meet and greet, and tickets to one of McCreery’s shows later this year. Fans can visit DrPepperMusic.com/Scotty-
“I’ve been drinking Dr Pepper ever since I was a kid playing baseball with my friends. That was always our drink after the games,” said McCreery. “Dr Pepper has always been one of my favorites.”
McCreery’s Dr Pepper promotion kicked off on Aug. 1, via social media and centers around the North Carolina native’s recent No.1 hit “You Time,” which the singer wrote with Frank Rogers and Aaron Eshuis. McCreery will also be featured as part of Dr Pepper’s in-store display marketing materials in major grocery chains throughout select markets including Albertsons, Food City, Harris Teeter, Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, Walmart, Winn Dixie, and more throughout August.
“Damn Strait” is McCreery’s fifth consecutive No.1 hit, following “You Time,” “In Between,” “This is It,” and “Five More Minutes.” Upon the song’s release, Rolling Stone named it a “Pick of the Week” calling it “clever songwriting, delivered by one of the genres’ best King George disciples,” while Billboard praises, “Another ace is the clever track ‘Damn Strait,’ a rare outside cut on the project, penned by Trent Tomlinson and Jim Collins, in which McCreery name checks several of King George’s greatest hits.” Taste of Country recently named it “one of the top 10 country songs of 2022 so far.”
Both “Damn Strait” and “You Time” are featured on his current album, Same Truck, produced by Frank Rogers, Derek Wells, and Aaron Eshuis. Released in late 2021, the Garner, North Carolina native shifted his perspective to reflect on the last decade of his career and life with wife Gabi and dog Moose, with Tennessean sharing, “McCreery walks a sonic tightrope that leans into his country influences while not abandoning modern Music Row hitmaking,” while Sounds Like Nashville observes, “with 12 tracks in total, those songs ended up showing more maturity than ever, and exploring everything from the common bonds his fans share to the eternal flame of romance.”
McCreery and his wife Gabi recently announced in People that they are expecting their first child, a boy, to be born in early November.
