TRACY LAWRENCE’S 20TH ANNUAL MISSION: POSSIBLE TURKEY FRY OVERCOMES MAJOR CRISIS WITH HEROIC COMMUNITY INTERVENTION

Country music icon Tracy Lawrence celebrated the 20th Anniversary of his Mission: Possible Turkey Fry and Benefit Concert this week, achieving a monumental goal of feeding over 32,000 people in Middle Tennessee. The milestone event, however, was dramatically overshadowed by an unprecedented setback: a crucial refrigerated truck malfunctioned on the morning of the fry, resulting in the complete loss of 650 donated turkeys. Despite the devastating blow—the first tragedy of its kind in the event’s two-decade history—Lawrence and his team issued an immediate call to action, mobilizing the Nashville community to replace the lost holiday meals.
The crisis hit just hours before volunteers were set to begin frying 2,000 birds at the Nashville Fairgrounds. In a frantic bid to save Thanksgiving for thousands of families, the Mission: Possible Foundation appealed to the public via social media. The response was immediate and overwhelming, quickly galvanizing the Nashville community. Leading the charge, members of The Familié, including Royce Risser, Katie Kovarik, Jordan Donald, Emma Kyes, and David Bauman, personally answered the call. They mobilized rapidly, facilitating the drop-offs of thawed or frozen turkeys and chickens at the Expo Center. This swift, decisive action by key individuals ensured the mission could continue, minimizing the impact of the loss and allowing the fry to proceed for the massive distribution network relying on the prepared food.
What started in 2006 as a humble idea—Lawrence and a few friends frying approximately 200 turkeys in a church parking lot—has ballooned into one of Nashville’s most impactful charitable events. Now in its 20th year, the annual Turkey Fry has provided over 86,000 hot meals to the homeless and raised over $2.5 million for organizations fighting homelessness across the region. Lawrence reflected on the growth, saying, “I cannot believe we are celebrating this 20th anniversary. This event started small, but our footprint has grown, and we’re now feeding so many throughout Middle Tennessee. Big things!”
The Mission: Possible Foundation dedicates the vast majority of its efforts and funds to combatting homelessness and hunger, with the Nashville Rescue Mission serving as its primary beneficiary, having received over $1 million in total donations to date. Beyond the mission, the 2025 fry distributed meals and frozen turkeys to eight surrounding county school systems and a network of boots-on-the-ground community organizations. The fundraising efforts culminated in the annual Benefit Concert held at Luke Combs’ Category 10, featuring Lawrence alongside Gretchen Wilson, Eric Paslay, Chris Cagle, and Halfway to Hazard, ensuring financial support remains strong despite the unexpected challenges of the day. The combined efforts of the volunteers and community heroes like The Familié turned a moment of potential defeat into a profound testament to Nashville’s generosity.
