COUNTRY SUPERSTARS KEITH URBAN, GRETCHEN WILSON, AND BLAKE SHELTON LEAD A NEW ERA OF MUSIC COMPETITION WITH THE PREMIERE OF CBS ORIGINAL SERIES, THE ROAD

CBS announced the highly anticipated premiere of its new docu-follow music competition series, THE ROAD, airing Sunday, October 19, on the CBS Television Network. A groundbreaking new take on the music genre, the show trades glitzy soundstages and celebrity judging panels for the raw, authentic world of a live concert tour, following 12 aspiring musicians as they compete for the chance to be the next breakout country star.
Created by a powerhouse team including executive producers Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan, THE ROAD places contestants in the ultimate real-world test: serving as the opening act for four-time GRAMMY® Award winner and headlining superstar Keith Urban. With Urban also serving as an executive producer, the show offers an exclusive, backstage pass into the unforgiving life of a touring artist. Each week, contestants must win over a live audience with their performances to earn a spot at the next tour stop.
Country music icon Gretchen Wilson joins the team, serving as the series’ “tour manager.” Drawing from her own extensive experience, Wilson will mentor and guide the emerging artists through the unique challenges of life on the road, offering invaluable advice on everything from set lists to working the crowd. “Stepping into the role of ‘tour manager’ for THE ROAD has allowed me to take everything I’ve learned over all of my years of touring and pour it right back into these emerging musicians,” Wilson shared.
“The concept of putting artists in a real-world environment versus a TV studio was really appealing to me,” said Urban. “It’s where the rubber meets the road—literally.” The series is a testament to the hard-earned realities of the industry, offering viewers an unfiltered look at what it truly takes to make it.
THE ROAD premieres Sunday, October 19, at 9:00 PM, ET/PT on the CBS Television Network, and will be available to stream live and on-demand for Paramount+ subscribers.
